Understanding Zoom Underwater

Zoom underwater is not quite the same as zooming above the surface.Water, suspended particles and changing light conditions affect image clarity and contrast, making it more challenging to maintain a sharp and detailed image when zooming in.

Our cameras currently provide up to 5x zoom, giving operators the ability to get closer to objects and details without physically moving the camera. The practical result depends on water clarity, distance, lighting and the overall optical system.

It is also important to understand that more zoom comes at a cost. Higher-performance underwater zoom requires more advanced optics, mechanics and pressure-resistant components, which can significantly increase both complexity and product cost.

Our approach is therefore to find the right balance between:

Zoom performance, image quality, reliability and price

– delivering a practical solution for real-world subsea applications while continuing to develop the technology further.

How to Choose the Right Equipment for Your Application

Choosing the right equipment is not always about selecting the most advanced or powerful product available. In many cases, the best solution is the one that is properly matched to the application, environment and actual requirements.

Before selecting a camera, lighting system, cable, connector or complete subsea solution, it is worth taking a step back and defining what the equipment needs to achieve.

Start with the application

What are you trying to see, measure, inspect or monitor? Is the camera intended for general observation, detailed inspection, documentation or continuous monitoring? The answer will influence everything from resolution and optics to lighting and data transmission.

Consider the environment

Subsea equipment can be exposed to demanding conditions. Depth, water quality, temperature, pressure, corrosion, turbidity and available space can all affect the choice of equipment. A solution that performs well in one environment may not necessarily be the right choice for another.

Look at the complete system

A camera is only one part of the solution. Lighting, power supply, cables, connectors, control systems and video transmission all need to work together. For example, selecting a high-resolution camera without considering available lighting or transmission distance may not provide the expected result.

Think about installation and operation

How will the equipment be installed, operated and maintained? Weight, dimensions, mounting options, connector types, power requirements and accessibility can have a significant impact on the overall solution.

Define what you actually need

More specifications do not always mean a better solution. Higher resolution, longer zoom or higher power consumption can add complexity and cost without providing additional value if those capabilities are not required for the application.

At Ferder Solutions, we believe that good engineering starts with understanding the application. By looking at the complete system and the conditions in which it will operate, we can help identify the right combination of equipment – whether you need a single underwater camera or a complete subsea video and monitoring solution.

HYBRID SOLUTION

One system. Multiple technologies. One complete solution.

Modern subsea operations often require more than a single camera. Cameras, lighting, power, communication, cabling and control systems all need to work together – reliably and efficiently.

Our Hybrid Solution is developed to bring these elements together into one integrated system.

Instead of selecting individual components and solving the integration afterwards, we design the system around the actual application. This allows cameras, lights, cables, connectors, electronics, network equipment and control interfaces to work together as a complete solution.

Designed around your application

Every installation has different requirements. Depth, water conditions, available power, communication infrastructure, number of cameras, lighting requirements and the way the system will be operated can all influence the final configuration.

Our Hybrid Solution can therefore be adapted to the application – from compact inspection systems to more advanced installations with multiple cameras, lighting, connection hubs and monitoring equipment.

The result is a cleaner and more practical system with fewer interfaces to manage and a solution that is easier to install, operate and maintain.

From individual components to a complete system

The strength of the Hybrid Solution is the combination of our different areas of expertise:

  • Cameras – IP, analog and specialized underwater camera solutions

  • Lighting – Subsea lighting designed to improve visibility and image quality

  • Power & connection – Connection hubs and customized power distribution

  • Cabling – Subsea Ethernet, coax and application-specific cable assemblies

  • Electronics – Integration of interfaces, communication and control

  • Monitoring – Displays, network equipment, recording and control solutions

  • Engineering – System design and configuration based on the actual requirements

Our approach allows the individual components to be configured around the installation rather than forcing the application to fit a standard package.

One partner. One integrated solution.

With engineering, production, cable assembly, electronics and subsea technology available under one roof, Ferder Solutions can support the process from initial requirements and system design through assembly, testing and final delivery.

This means you don't have to source and integrate every part of the system yourself.

We can take responsibility for putting the pieces together and

deliver a solution designed to work as one.

From camera to complete monitoring system – built around your requirements.

Typical applications

Aquaculture • Wellboats • ROV • Inspection • Subsea Monitoring
